6,000 private houses still to be reconstructed in Lalitpur Metropolis

Four years have passed since the Gorkha earthquake and some 6,000 private houses are still to be reconstructed inside Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

At a programme ‘Private Sector’s contribution and role in post-earthquake reconstruction and resettlement’ organised by Transparency International (TI) Nepal here on Wednesday, Chief of Building Project of the District Project Implementation Unit, Chandrakaji Gurung, said that a total of 7,408 people were identified as beneficiary in the metropolitan City.

Gurung added, "The agreement was signed with 6,383 beneficiaries. Six thousand three hundred sixty-six beneficiaries received first tranche. Similarly, 1,527 beneficiaries got second and 1,070 beneficiaries received third tranche. But only 913 private houses have been reconstructed."

He said that although private sector has constructed private houses at different places, there is still problem of keeping fact record.

Similarly, representative of New Surya Enterprises, Chin Maharjan, said that it would be effective to forward plan of integrated settlement inside the metropolitan city.

He argued, "The government should make arrangement of waiver of supply charge as the metropolitan city has been facing lots of problem in supplying materials in city areas."
