Suryodaya is a Municipality located in Ilam District of Nepal. It has total 14 wards and 253 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 census, it had total population of 56,691.

Suryodaya is a Municipality, which is located in Ilam district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Suryodaya has total 14 wards, which are scattered across 253 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Suryodaya Municipality had total population of 56,691.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Suryodaya Municipality had total 56,707 population with 27,867 males and 28,840 females. Out of total wards, ward number 1 had the largest population 5,358, while ward number 7 had least number of population with 5,358.

With respect to number of households, Suryodaya Municipality had total 13,211 households. The ward number 10 had most households with total 1,269, while ward number 7 had least number of households with total 539 number of households.Wardwise Population Chart of Suryodaya Municipality

As illustrated in the chart, the ratio of male to female population was 0.97, which indicates that Suryodaya Municipality had 3 percent lower males as compared to the females. Same as, the population to household ratio was 4.29, which means that in average 4.29 family members lived in each household.

Absentee Population

As of 2011, 3,373 population in Suryodaya Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 5.95 percent of the total population. Population by Age Group

In terms of age, the largest population in Suryodaya Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 6,349. However, gender wise largest population age group differs from the total population, such as largest male population falls between 10 and 14 with total 3,155 while female population falls between 15 and 19 with total 3,264 population. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 909 population, which consistes of 503 males and 406 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (6,349), between 15 and 19 (6,313), between 5 and 9 (5,331), between 20 and 24 (5,245), between 25 and 29 (4,900) with total population of 28,138. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (909), above 75 (1,136), between 65 and 69 (1,260), between 60 and 64 (1,686), and between 55 and 59 (2,225) with total population of 7,216. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (3,155), between 15 and 19 (3,049), between 5 and 9 (2,692), between 20 and 24 (2,315), and between 25 and 29 (2,132), with total population of 13,343. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (503), above 75 (667), between 65 and 69 (703),between 60 and 64 (916), and between 55 and 59 (1,191), with total population of 3,980. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 15 and 19 (3,264), between 10 and 14 (3,194), between 20 and 24 (2,930), between 25 and 29 (2,768), and between 5 and 9 (2,639), with total population of 14,795. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (406), above 75 (469), between 65 and 69 (557),between 60 and 64 (770), and between 55 and 59 (1,034), with total population of 3,236.

The population with age-group above 75 had male to female ratio of 1.42, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.77. The age-groups above 75, 65 to 69, 70 to 74, 60 to 64, 55 to 59, 50 to 54, below 4, 45 to 49, 5 to 9, 40 to 44 had majority of male population while age-groups 10 to 14, 15 to 19, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 20 to 24, 25 to 29 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 67.65 % (38,349 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 26.55 % with total number of 15,053. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.83 % with total number of 3,305. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 32.38 with total number of 18,358

There were 16,745 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 3,373. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 201 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 13,634 in Suryodaya Municipality with 6,218 (45.61%) of males and 7,416 (54.39%) females. There were total 95 schools. In average, 144 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Suryodaya Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Rai caste with total population of 14,912. There were as little as Chepang/Praja caste with population of as little as 11 in total. Top five castes of people in Suryodaya Municipality are Rai (14,912), Brahmin - Hill (8,624), Chhetri (7,699), Tamang (6,938) and Newar (2,990) with total population of 41,163, which forms 72.61 percent out of total population of 56,691 in Suryodaya Municipality.

Population by Disability

Out of total population of 56,707, there were total 1,137 (2.01%) disabled persons in Suryodaya Municipality with 601 (52.86%) males and 536 (47.14%) females. The physically disabled persons were 374, while mentally disabled people were 82 and intellectually disabled were 37.

Similarly, there were 154 people who were blind and 255 people were deaf, while 17 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 126 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 92 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation

Out of total 13211 households in Suryodaya Municipality, there were 9,142 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 1,658 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 463 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 1,505houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 526 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 11,693 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 92 houses had roof of tile, 692 houses had RCC roofs, 58 houses had roof of woods while 1 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 428 out of 13,211 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 6,031 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 6,699 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Suryodaya Municipality, there were total 11,572 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 18 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 102 houses had covered well while 628 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 11,392 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 72 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 1,152 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (16), bio-gas (514), fuel electricity (5), etc.

Same as, total 11,045 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 1,899, while 96 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.84.

Facilities

out of 13,211 households in Suryodaya Municipality, 989 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 12,096 households reported of using at least one facility. According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 2,239 establishments in Suryodaya Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 6,560 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 3,655 and female engagement of 2,905 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.93 people engaged with average males are 1.63 and females are 1.30.
