In 2017 election of Bhadrapur Municipality (Jhapa district), candidate Jeevan Kumar Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,042 (42.29%) votes out of total votes of 26,110 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ganesh Pokharel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 7,215 (19.42%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,853 (15.04) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Chandra Maya Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,650 (40.93%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Tara Devi Bhurtel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,498 (17.72%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,875 (17.05) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 292 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 177 (60.62%) males and 115 (39.38%) females. Moreover, there were total 65 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 112 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 53 females and 43 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
