In 2017 election of Sotang Rural Municipality (Solukhumbu district), candidate Bir Bahadur Rai (nachiring) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,003 (30.84%) votes out of total votes of 3,252 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dipak Khadka of Independent (Ind) who secured 871 (20.47%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,378 (21.19) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Laxmi Karki of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,673 (53.55%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Nanda Kumari Rai (nachiring) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 846 (17.64%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 605 (9.68) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 88 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 57 (64.77%) males and 31 (35.23%) females. Moreover, there were total 18 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 32 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 15 females and 13 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
