In 2017 election of Sarawal Rural Municipality (Nawalparasi_W district), candidate Radhe Shyam Chaudhary Tharu of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 5,045 (36.74%) votes out of total votes of 13,733 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Pradeep Kumar Agrahari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,916 (20.85%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,772 (17.37) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Uttama Kumari Raya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,458 (32.60%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sunita Harijan of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 4,343 (23.95%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,872 (17.82) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 188 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 110 (58.51%) males and 78 (41.49%) females. Moreover, there were total 37 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 71 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 33 females and 34 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
