Phikkal is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Sindhuli district, Province No. 3 of Nepal. Phikkal has total 6 wards, which are scattered across 186 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Phikkal Rural Municipality had total population of 16,968.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Phikkal Rural Municipality had total 16,968 population with 8,143 males and 8,825 females. Out of total wards, ward number 1 had the largest population 3,879, while ward number 5 had least number of population with 3,879.

In terms of age, the largest population in Phikkal Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 2,597. However, gender wise largest population age group differs from the total population, such as largest male population falls between 10 and 14 with total 1,356 while female population falls between 5 and 9 with total 1,303 population. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 237 population, which consistes of 119 males and 118 females. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,356), between 5 and 9 (1,212), below 4 (996), between 15 and 19 (835), and between 20 and 24 (537), with total population of 4,936. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (119), between 65 and 69 (147), above 75 (168),between 60 and 64 (224), and between 55 and 59 (236), with total population of 894. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 5 and 9 (1,303), between 10 and 14 (1,241), below 4 (1,091), between 15 and 19 (1,012), and between 20 and 24 (712), with total population of 5,359. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (118), between 65 and 69 (154), above 75 (173),between 60 and 64 (215), and between 55 and 59 (222), with total population of 882.

The population with age-group 50 to 54 had male to female ratio of 1.10, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.75. The age-groups 50 to 54, 10 to 14, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 70 to 74 had majority of male population while age-groups above 75, 45 to 49, 65 to 69, 5 to 9, 40 to 44, below 4, 15 to 19, 30 to 34, 20 to 24, 25 to 29 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups 35 to 39 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 52.39 % (8,890 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 42.43 % with total number of 7,199. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.18 % with total number of 879. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 47.61 with total number of 8,078

There were 3,994 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 2,087. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 523 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 9,690 in Phikkal Rural Municipality with 4,671 (48.20%) of males and 5,019 (51.80%) females. There were total 47 schools. In average, 206 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Phikkal Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Magar caste with total population of 3,554. There were as little as Sonar caste with population of as little as 49 in total. People of several other castes who live in Phikkal are Sunuwar, Chhetri, Brahmin - Hill, Kami, Sarki, Rai, Tamang, Newar, Damai/Dholi, Gharti/Bhujel, Majhi, Brahmin - Tarai, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Sonar, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Phikkal Rural Municipality are Magar (3,554), Sunuwar (2,694), Chhetri (2,134), Brahmin - Hill (1,976) and Kami (1,419) with total population of 11,777, which forms 69.41 percent out of total population of 16,968 in Phikkal Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 16,968, there were total 358 (2.11%) disabled persons in Phikkal Rural Municipality with 176 (49.16%) males and 182 (50.84%) females. The physically disabled persons were 153, while mentally disabled people were 6 and intellectually disabled were 10.

Out of total 3035 households in Phikkal Rural Municipality, there were 2,952 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 1 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 1 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 59houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 2,243 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 93 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 654 houses had roof of tile, 5 houses had RCC roofs, 0 houses had roof of woods while 6 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 2,434 out of 3,035 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 232 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 349 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Phikkal Rural Municipality, there were total 2,489 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 2 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 19 houses had covered well while 194 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 2,984 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 12 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 1 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (8), bio-gas (7), fuel electricity (1), etc.

Same as, total 318 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 803, while 1,041 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.10.

Facilities

out of 3,035 households in Phikkal Rural Municipality, 941 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 1,997 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 1,837, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 835.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 356 establishments in Phikkal Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,650 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 995 and female engagement of 655 persons.In every business, there were an average of 4.63 people engaged with average males are 2.79 and females are 1.84.
