Mechinagar is a Municipality, which is located in Jhapa district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Mechinagar has total 15 wards, which are scattered across 193 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mechinagar Municipality had total population of 111,797.

As of 2011, 11,087 population in Mechinagar Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 9.92 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 9,096, which equals to 17.16 percent of total 52,996 males. Same as, 1,991 females were absent, which equals to 3.39 percent of 58,741 females. At least one member of 7,933 (31.07 percent) households were absent.

As illustrated in the charts, the ratio of absentee population was 9.08, while male to female absentee population ratio was 4.57. Same as, the household ratio of present vs. absent population was 2.22.

In terms of age, the largest population in Mechinagar Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 12,775. Gender wise, there were 6,410 males and 6,365 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 1,748 population, which consistes of 914 males and 834 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (12,775), between 15 and 19 (12,069), between 5 and 9 (10,963), between 20 and 24 (10,319), between 25 and 29 (9,457) with total population of 55,583. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (1,748), above 75 (2,201), between 65 and 69 (2,363), between 60 and 64 (3,446), and between 55 and 59 (3,965) with total population of 13,723. The median age-group of total population falls between 35 and 39 and between 40 and 44 with average population of 7,331.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (6,410), between 15 and 19 (5,795), between 5 and 9 (5,587), below 4 (4,409), and between 20 and 24 (4,140), with total population of 26,341. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (914), above 75 (1,106), between 65 and 69 (1,243),between 60 and 64 (1,747), and between 55 and 59 (1,949), with total population of 6,959. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (6,365), between 15 and 19 (6,274), between 20 and 24 (6,179), between 25 and 29 (5,719), and between 5 and 9 (5,376), with total population of 29,913. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (834), above 75 (1,095), between 65 and 69 (1,120),between 60 and 64 (1,699), and between 55 and 59 (2,016), with total population of 6,764.

The population with age-group 65 to 69 had male to female ratio of 1.11, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.65. The age-groups 65 to 69, 70 to 74, below 4, 5 to 9, 50 to 54, 60 to 64, 10 to 14, above 75 had majority of male population while age-groups 55 to 59, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 15 to 19, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 20 to 24, 25 to 29 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 65.38 % (73,090 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 28.92 % with total number of 32,335. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.65 % with total number of 6,312. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 34.57 with total number of 38,647

There were 33,541 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 8,597. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 256 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 10,521 in Mechinagar Municipality with 5,129 (48.75%) of males and 5,392 (51.25%) females. There were total 89 schools. In average, 118 students were studying in each school.

Top five castes of people in Mechinagar Municipality are Brahmin - Hill (24,924), Chhetri (20,814), Rajbansi (9,893), Rai (5,645) and Limbu (5,207) with total population of 66,483, which forms 59.47 percent out of total population of 111,797 in Mechinagar Municipality.

Out of total population of 111,737, there were total 2,080 (1.86%) disabled persons in Mechinagar Municipality with 1,112 (53.46%) males and 968 (46.54%) females. The physically disabled persons were 683, while mentally disabled people were 161 and intellectually disabled were 74.

Similarly, there were 238 people who were blind and 344 people were deaf, while 19 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 355 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 206 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 25531 households in Mechinagar Municipality, there were 1,301 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 8,332 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 5,800 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 7,640houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 377 houses were mud bonded, 11,774 houses were cement bonded, 1,447 houses were wood planks bonded, 11,430 houses were bamboo bonded and 20 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 856 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 19,802 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 67 houses had roof of tile, 4,441 houses had RCC roofs, 56 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 5,105 out of 25,531 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 12,458 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 7,886 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Mechinagar Municipality, there were total 8,524 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 13,155 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 823 houses had covered well while 2,474 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (67) and river stream (52), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 16,232 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 277 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 6,510 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (166), bio-gas (2,210), fuel electricity (14), etc.

Same as, total 21,348 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 3,906, while 81 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.84.

out of 25,531 households in Mechinagar Municipality, 1,871 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 23,490 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.MobilePhone was used by the maximum households with total users of 18,803, while Television was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 17,223.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 5,886 establishments in Mechinagar Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 17,023 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 9,658 and female engagement of 7,365 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.89 people engaged with average males are 1.64 and females are 1.25. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.31, which means as many as 1.31 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
