In 2017 election of Malika Rural Municipality (Gulmi district), candidate Rit Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,042 (42.36%) votes out of total votes of 9,543 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Gyan Bahadur Karki of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,447 (25.37%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,054 (10.76) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Dewa Rizal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,065 (42.69%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sita Aryal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,759 (27.67%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,698 (8.92) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 125 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 75 (60.00%) males and 50 (40.00%) females. Moreover, there were total 25 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 47 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 23 females and 22 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
