Madi is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Kaski district, Gandaki Province of Nepal. Madi has total 12 wards, which are scattered across 563 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Madi Rural Municipality had total population of 18,153.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Madi Rural Municipality had total 18,153 population with 8,241 males and 9,912 females. Out of total wards, ward number 1 had the largest population 2,418, while ward number 2 had least number of population with 2,418.

In terms of age, the largest population in Madi Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 2,331. Gender wise, there were 1,174 males and 1,157 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 491 population, which consistes of 249 males and 242 females. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,174), between 15 and 19 (984), between 5 and 9 (859), below 4 (785), and between 20 and 24 (491), with total population of 4,293. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (249), between 65 and 69 (307), between 30 and 34 (309),between 35 and 39 (353), and between 25 and 29 (356), with total population of 1,574. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (1,157), between 15 and 19 (1,018), between 5 and 9 (918), between 20 and 24 (823), and below 4 (755), with total population of 4,671. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (242), between 65 and 69 (301), above 75 (321),between 55 and 59 (456), and between 60 and 64 (501), with total population of 1,821.

The population with age-group above 75 had male to female ratio of 1.15, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.54. The age-groups above 75, below 4, 70 to 74, 65 to 69, 10 to 14 had majority of male population while age-groups 15 to 19, 5 to 9, 55 to 59, 50 to 54, 60 to 64, 45 to 49, 40 to 44, 20 to 24, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 25 to 29 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 59.03 % (10,716 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 31.11 % with total number of 5,648. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 9.86 % with total number of 1,789. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 40.97 with total number of 7,437

There were 4,755 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,540. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 324 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 131,925 in Madi Rural Municipality with 67,325 (51.03%) of males and 64,600 (48.97%) females. There were total 56 schools. In average, 2356 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Madi Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Gurung caste with total population of 5,962. There were as little as Terai Others caste with population of as little as 12 in total. People of several other castes who live in Madi are Brahmin - Hill, Kami, Chhetri, Damai/Dholi, Sarki, Magar, Tamang, Gharti/Bhujel, Thakuri, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Badi, Newar, Muslim, Hyolmo, Terai Others, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Madi Rural Municipality are Gurung (5,962), Brahmin - Hill (4,457), Kami (2,084), Chhetri (2,010) and Damai/Dholi (1,290) with total population of 15,803, which forms 87.05 percent out of total population of 18,153 in Madi Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 18,153, there were total 849 (4.68%) disabled persons in Madi Rural Municipality with 431 (50.77%) males and 418 (49.23%) females. The physically disabled persons were 227, while mentally disabled people were 47 and intellectually disabled were 27.

Similarly, there were 163 people who were blind and 165 people were deaf, while 11 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 94 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 115 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation

Out of total 4508 households in Madi Rural Municipality, there were 4,376 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 27 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 4 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 85houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 612 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 3,034 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 828 houses had roof of tile, 16 houses had RCC roofs, 1 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 85 out of 4,508 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 4,186 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 225 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Madi Rural Municipality, there were total 4,245 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 2 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 38 houses had covered well while 85 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 4,388 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 11 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 37 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (3), bio-gas (57), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 3,449 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 594, while 380 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.77.

Facilities

out of 4,508 households in Madi Rural Municipality, 613 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,811 households reported of using at least one facility.
