In 2017 election of Gaushala Municipality (Mahottari district), candidate Shivnath Mahato of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,944 (27.77%) votes out of total votes of 21,408 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Kumari Devi Koiri of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 5,000 (18.28%) of votes. The rest of 18 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 10,464 (24.44) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Asha Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,970 (29.35%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sushila Devi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,642 (17.64%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 9,731 (23.92) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 386 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 234 (60.62%) males and 152 (39.38%) females. Moreover, there were total 83 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 136 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 71 females and 66 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
