Maharajgunj is a Municipality, which is located in Kapilvastu district, Province No. 5 of Nepal. Maharajgunj has total 11 wards, which are scattered across 112 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Maharajgunj Municipality had total population of 54,800.

As of 2011, 1,738 population in Maharajgunj Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 3.17 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 1,595, which equals to 5.67 percent of total 28,122 males. Same as, 143 females were absent, which equals to 0.54 percent of 26,678 females. At least one member of 1,178 (14.77 percent) households were absent.

As illustrated in the charts, the ratio of absentee population was 30.53, while male to female absentee population ratio was 11.15. Same as, the household ratio of present vs. absent population was 5.77.

In terms of age, the largest population in Maharajgunj Municipality were between 5 and 9 years of age with total 7,812. Gender wise, there were 3,942 males and 3,870 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was above 75 with total 792 population, which consistes of 425 males and 367 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 5 and 9 (7,812), between 10 and 14 (7,330), below 4 (6,609), between 15 and 19 (5,533), between 20 and 24 (4,136) with total population of 31,420. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were above 75 (792), between 70 and 74 (849), between 65 and 69 (1,328), between 55 and 59 (1,619), and between 50 and 54 (1,761) with total population of 6,349. The median age-group of total population falls between 35 and 39 and between 40 and 44 with average population of 2,882.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 5 and 9 (3,942), between 10 and 14 (3,847), below 4 (3,373), between 15 and 19 (2,904), and between 25 and 29 (2,022), with total population of 16,088. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (425), between 70 and 74 (434), between 65 and 69 (772),between 55 and 59 (828), and between 60 and 64 (920), with total population of 3,379. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 5 and 9 (3,870), between 10 and 14 (3,483), below 4 (3,236), between 15 and 19 (2,629), and between 20 and 24 (2,126), with total population of 15,344. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (367), between 70 and 74 (415), between 65 and 69 (556),between 55 and 59 (791), and between 50 and 54 (835), with total population of 2,964.

The population with age-group 65 to 69 had male to female ratio of 1.39, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 30 to 34 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.88. The age-groups 65 to 69, 45 to 49, above 75, 35 to 39, 50 to 54, 10 to 14, 15 to 19, 60 to 64, 40 to 44, 55 to 59, 70 to 74, below 4, 5 to 9, 25 to 29 had majority of male population while age-groups 20 to 24, 30 to 34 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 54.89 % (30,080 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 39.69 % with total number of 21,751. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.42 % with total number of 2,969. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 45.11 with total number of 24,720

There were 12,280 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 6,609. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 538 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 14,837 in Maharajgunj Municipality with 7,394 (49.83%) of males and 7,443 (50.17%) females. There were total 80 schools. In average, 185 students were studying in each school.

There were as little as Satar/Santhal caste with population of as little as 11 in total. Top five castes of people in Maharajgunj Municipality are Muslim (13,456), Kurmi (8,246), Yadav (7,456), Dusadh/Pasawan/Pasi (3,358) and Chamar/Harijan/Ram (2,775) with total population of 35,291, which forms 64.40 percent out of total population of 54,800 in Maharajgunj Municipality.

Out of total population of 54,800, there were total 607 (1.11%) disabled persons in Maharajgunj Municipality with 335 (55.19%) males and 272 (44.81%) females. The physically disabled persons were 195, while mentally disabled people were 56 and intellectually disabled were 22.

Similarly, there were 112 people who were blind and 81 people were deaf, while 16 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 60 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 65 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 7977 households in Maharajgunj Municipality, there were 5,852 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 618 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 14 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 1,249houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 5,370 houses were mud bonded, 1,044 houses were cement bonded, 237 houses were wood planks bonded, 806 houses were bamboo bonded and 84 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,866 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 57 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 314 houses had roof of tile, 5,301 houses had RCC roofs, 271 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 7,346 out of 7,977 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 500 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 104 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Maharajgunj Municipality, there were total 98 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 7,617 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 80 houses had covered well while 128 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (10) and river stream (2), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 2,852 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 146 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 99 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (4,641), bio-gas (208), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 3,591 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 4,164, while 46 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.45.

out of 7,977 households in Maharajgunj Municipality, 1,044 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 6,841 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Bicycle was used by the maximum households with total users of 6,431, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,981.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 874 establishments in Maharajgunj Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 3,957 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 3,110 and female engagement of 847 persons.In every business, there were an average of 4.53 people engaged with average males are 3.56 and females are 0.97. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 3.67, which means as many as 3.67 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
