Pokhara is a Metropolitan City, which is located in Kaski district, Gandaki Province of Nepal. Pokhara has total 33 wards, which are scattered across 464 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Pokhara Metropolitan City had total population of 414,141.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Pokhara Metropolitan City had total 402,995 population with 192,977 males and 210,018 females. Out of total wards, ward number 17 had the largest population 26,752, while ward number 20 had least number of population with 26,752.

In terms of age, the largest population in Pokhara Metropolitan City were between 15 and 19 years of age with total 47,369. However, gender wise largest population age group differs from the total population, such as largest male population falls between 15 and 19 with total 24,628 while female population falls between 20 and 24 with total 24,435 population. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 6,063 population, which consistes of 2,716 males and 3,347 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 15 and 19 (47,369), between 10 and 14 (45,687), between 20 and 24 (45,477), between 5 and 9 (38,595), between 25 and 29 (38,349) with total population of 215,477. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (6,063), between 65 and 69 (7,562), above 75 (8,865), between 60 and 64 (9,983), and between 55 and 59 (11,781) with total population of 44,254. The median age-group of total population falls between 35 and 39 and between 40 and 44 with average population of 24,197.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 15 and 19 (24,628), between 10 and 14 (23,383), between 20 and 24 (21,042), between 5 and 9 (20,117), and below 4 (16,314), with total population of 105,484. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (2,716), between 65 and 69 (3,392), above 75 (3,802),between 60 and 64 (4,496), and between 55 and 59 (5,704), with total population of 20,110. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 20 and 24 (24,435), between 15 and 19 (22,741), between 10 and 14 (22,304), between 25 and 29 (22,203), and between 5 and 9 (18,478), with total population of 110,161. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (3,347), between 65 and 69 (4,170), above 75 (5,063),between 60 and 64 (5,487), and between 55 and 59 (6,077), with total population of 24,144.

The population with age-group below 4 had male to female ratio of 1.16, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.73. The age-groups below 4, 5 to 9, 15 to 19, 10 to 14 had majority of male population while age-groups 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 45 to 49, 20 to 24, 40 to 44, 60 to 64, 35 to 39, 65 to 69, 70 to 74, 30 to 34, above 75, 25 to 29 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

Population Ratios

There were 64.18 % (265,786 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 27.70 % with total number of 114,719. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.43 % with total number of 22,490. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 33.13 with total number of 137,209

There were 122,863 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 30,437. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 248 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 6,177 in Pokhara Metropolitan City with 2,920 (47.27%) of males and 3,257 (52.73%) females. There were total 428 schools. In average, 14 students were studying in each school.

Top five castes of people in Pokhara Metropolitan City are Brahmin - Hill (112,704), Gurung (64,778), Chhetri (62,010), Magar (36,753) and Kami (27,431) with total population of 303,676, which forms 73.33 percent out of total population of 414,141 in Pokhara Metropolitan City.

Population by Disability

Out of total population of 402,995, there were total 6,180 (1.53%) disabled persons in Pokhara Metropolitan City with 3,381 (54.71%) males and 2,799 (45.29%) females. The physically disabled persons were 2,306, while mentally disabled people were 477 and intellectually disabled were 198.

Similarly, there were 971 people who were blind and 866 people were deaf, while 122 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 735 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 505 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation

Out of total 105630 households in Pokhara Metropolitan City, there were 29,049 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 41,151 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 33,877 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 446houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,108 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 45,735 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 1,857 houses had roof of tile, 55,795 houses had RCC roofs, 75 houses had roof of woods while 1 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 698 out of 105,630 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 98,061 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 6,475 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Pokhara Metropolitan City, there were total 97,864 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 159 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 972 houses had covered well while 1,427 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 22,744 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 1,652 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 75,672 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (53), bio-gas (4,705), fuel electricity (133), etc.

Same as, total 102,531 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 2,104, while 96 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.97.

Facilities

out of 105,630 households in Pokhara Metropolitan City, 3,432 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 100,844 households reported of using at least one facility. According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 28,215 establishments in Pokhara Metropolitan City that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 104,469 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 61,872 and female engagement of 42,597 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.70 people engaged with average males are 2.19 and females are 1.51.
