Thasang is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Mustang district, Gandaki Province of Nepal. Thasang has total 5 wards, which are scattered across 289 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Thasang Rural Municipality had total population of 2,912.

As of 2011, 179 population in Thasang Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 6.15 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 158, which equals to 10.49 percent of total 1,506 males. Same as, 21 females were absent, which equals to 1.49 percent of 1,406 females. At least one member of 146 (18.96 percent) households were absent.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (177), between 5 and 9 (132), between 25 and 29 (126), between 30 and 34 (119), and between 40 and 44 (118), with total population of 672. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (35), between 65 and 69 (42), between 70 and 74 (43),between 60 and 64 (51), and between 55 and 59 (67), with total population of 238. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (154), between 5 and 9 (134), below 4 (131), between 15 and 19 (124), and between 30 and 34 (116), with total population of 659. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 65 and 69 (34), between 70 and 74 (40), above 75 (46),between 55 and 59 (52), and between 45 and 49 (56), with total population of 228.

The population with age-group 45 to 49 had male to female ratio of 1.55, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group above 75 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.76. The age-groups 45 to 49, 40 to 44, 55 to 59, 65 to 69, 10 to 14, 25 to 29, 50 to 54, 35 to 39, 70 to 74, 30 to 34 had majority of male population while age-groups 5 to 9, 15 to 19, 60 to 64, below 4, above 75 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups 20 to 24 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 62.91 % (1,832 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 28.85 % with total number of 840. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 8.24 % with total number of 240. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 37.09 with total number of 1,080

There were 694 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 243. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 350 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 273 in Thasang Rural Municipality with 133 (48.72%) of males and 140 (51.28%) females. There were total 13 schools. In average, 21 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Thasang Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Thakali caste with total population of 994. There were as little as Limbu caste with population of as little as 13 in total. People of several other castes who live in Thasang are Kami, Magar, Damai/Dholi, Chhetri, Brahmin - Hill, Chhantyal/Chhantel, Gurung, Tamang, Sarki, Dalit Others, Rai, Newar, Sherpa, Limbu, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Thasang Rural Municipality are Thakali (994), Kami (519), Magar (494), Damai/Dholi (304) and Chhetri (137) with total population of 2,448, which forms 84.07 percent out of total population of 2,912 in Thasang Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 2,912, there were total 157 (5.39%) disabled persons in Thasang Rural Municipality with 82 (52.23%) males and 75 (47.77%) females. The physically disabled persons were 21, while mentally disabled people were 9 and intellectually disabled were 3.

Out of total 770 households in Thasang Rural Municipality, there were 687 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 48 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 1 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 22houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 634 houses were mud bonded, 94 houses were cement bonded, 24 houses were wood planks bonded, 8 houses were bamboo bonded and 0 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 15 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 136 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 76 houses had roof of tile, 10 houses had RCC roofs, 18 houses had roof of woods while 487 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 248 out of 770 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 474 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 43 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Thasang Rural Municipality, there were total 711 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 0 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 0 houses had covered well while 3 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (42) and river stream (9), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 690 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 4 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 61 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (1), bio-gas (0), fuel electricity (9), etc.

Same as, total 720 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 35, while 0 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.94.

out of 770 households in Thasang Rural Municipality, 115 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 647 households reported of using at least one facility. According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 132 establishments in Thasang Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 689 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 350 and female engagement of 339 persons.In every business, there were an average of 5.22 people engaged with average males are 2.65 and females are 2.57. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.03, which means as many as 1.03 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
