Thori is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Parsa district, Province No. 2 of Nepal. Thori has total 5 wards, which are scattered across 129 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Thori Rural Municipality had total population of 20,296.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Thori Rural Municipality had total 20,397 population with 9,832 males and 10,565 females. Out of total wards, ward number 4 had the largest population 5,567, while ward number 1 had least number of population with 5,567.

In terms of age, the largest population in Thori Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 2,579. Gender wise, there were 1,285 males and 1,294 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 365 population, which consistes of 167 males and 198 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (2,579), between 15 and 19 (2,359), between 5 and 9 (2,171), between 20 and 24 (1,845), below 4 (1,663) with total population of 10,617. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,285), between 15 and 19 (1,152), between 5 and 9 (1,124), below 4 (846), and between 20 and 24 (735), with total population of 5,142. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (167), between 65 and 69 (238), above 75 (272),between 60 and 64 (299), and between 55 and 59 (357), with total population of 1,333. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (1,294), between 15 and 19 (1,207), between 20 and 24 (1,110), between 5 and 9 (1,047), and between 25 and 29 (860), with total population of 5,518. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (198), between 65 and 69 (228), above 75 (242),between 60 and 64 (304), and between 55 and 59 (353), with total population of 1,325.

The population with age-group above 75 had male to female ratio of 1.12, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 20 to 24 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.66. The age-groups above 75, 5 to 9, below 4, 50 to 54, 65 to 69, 55 to 59 had majority of male population while age-groups 10 to 14, 60 to 64, 45 to 49, 15 to 19, 40 to 44, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 70 to 74, 25 to 29, 20 to 24 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 62.27 % (12,639 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 31.60 % with total number of 6,413. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 6.63 % with total number of 1,345. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 38.22 with total number of 7,758

There were 5,667 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,663. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 293 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 2,466 in Thori Rural Municipality with 1,199 (48.62%) of males and 1,267 (51.38%) females. There were total 26 schools. In average, 95 students were studying in each school.

Population by Castes

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Thori Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Tamang caste with total population of 6,517. There were as little as Dhanuk caste with population of as little as 11 in total. People of several other castes who live in Thori are Chhetri, Newar, Brahmin - Hill, Kami, Magar, Tharu, Gurung, Damai/Dholi, Sarki, Bote, Sunuwar, Yadav, Rai, Thakuri, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Chepang/Praja, Gharti/Bhujel, Gaine, Kanu, Dusadh/Pasawan/Pasi, Majhi, Dalit Others, Thami, Terai Others, Kalwar, Kathbaniyan, Chamar/Harijan/Ram, Teli, Brahmin - Tarai, Musahar, Mallaha, Kurmi, Kumal, Koiri/Kushwaha, Hajam/Thakur, Dhanuk, Jirel, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Thori Rural Municipality are Tamang (6,517), Chhetri (4,252), Newar (3,655), Brahmin - Hill (1,549) and Kami (941) with total population of 16,914, which forms 83.34 percent out of total population of 20,296 in Thori Rural Municipality.

Population by Disability

Out of total population of 20,397, there were total 363 (1.78%) disabled persons in Thori Rural Municipality with 214 (58.95%) males and 149 (41.05%) females. The physically disabled persons were 130, while mentally disabled people were 30 and intellectually disabled were 17.

Similarly, there were 61 people who were blind and 48 people were deaf, while 4 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 41 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 32 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation

Out of total 4247 households in Thori Rural Municipality, there were 174 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 280 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 29 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 3,737houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 684 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 798 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 2,580 houses had roof of tile, 112 houses had RCC roofs, 29 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 2,810 out of 4,247 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 861 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 558 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Thori Rural Municipality, there were total 2,644 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 872 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 135 houses had covered well while 350 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 4,095 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 38 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 44 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (7), bio-gas (42), fuel electricity (1), etc.

Same as, total 728 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 1,602, while 1,681 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.17.

Facilities

out of 4,247 households in Thori Rural Municipality, 514 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,656 households reported of using at least one facility. According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 615 establishments in Thori Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,385 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 813 and female engagement of 572 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.25 people engaged with average males are 1.32 and females are 0.93.
