In 2017 election of Bheemdatta Municipality (Kanchanpur district), candidate Surendra Bahadur Bista of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,831 (36.14%) votes out of total votes of 32,735 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Padam Bogati of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 11,665 (26.17%) of votes. The rest of 11 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 9,239 (14.11) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sushila Chand of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 12,775 (39.55%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Maya Pant of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,836 (26.26%) of votes and came in second position. Other 10 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,688 (11.90) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 439 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 255 (58.09%) males and 184 (41.91%) females. Moreover, there were total 94 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 19 wards. Same as, total 162 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 78 females and 80 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
