In 2017 election of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality (Dhankuta district), candidate Sher Bahadur Limbu of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,349 (48.90%) votes out of total votes of 6,848 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Bishnu Bahadur Limbu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 1,531 (15.01%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,968 (14.37) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bhimkala Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,289 (48.12%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Gita Gurung of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,073 (20.48%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,473 (10.78) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 127 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 77 (60.63%) males and 50 (39.37%) females. Moreover, there were total 24 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 47 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 23 females and 21 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
