In 2017 election of Barahapokhari Rural Municipality (Khotang district), candidate Salik Ram Banjara of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,971 (40.93%) votes out of total votes of 4,815 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Ganesh Prasad Koirala of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 1,732 (25.52%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,112 (11.55) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Goma Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,844 (38.54%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Nirmala Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,700 (25.64%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,241 (12.97) of votes.

Moreover, there were total 25 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards.
