Finance Minister Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada said the government would focus on escalating tax collections from high income-generating sectors.<\/p>\n
The government would not unnecessarily focus on meeting the revenue collection targets, but follow strict measures for the enforcement of related laws, he said at a programme organised here on Sunday on the occasion of the 78th International Customs Day.<\/p>\n
As he said, citizens would be made to pay taxes in accordance with the law, but would never be left suffering in the name of it.<\/p>\n
Stating that it was the responsibility of a good citizen to pay taxes to the State, the Minister said the government was concentrated on collecting inland revenues than customs duties.<\/p>\n
He took time to call on the business community to fight market malpractices and to pay attention towards ensuring quality of goods.<\/p>\n
On the occasion, he shared the government’s plans of enriching the domestic customs system with technology and digitalising it.<\/p>\n
General Director of the Department of Customs Suman Dahal said the maximum use of technology was given priority in the customs system to make it more transparent.<\/p>\n
