High level committee formed to monitor human rights condition

A high level committee has been formed to monitor the human rights in the adverse situation caused by the COVID-19 in the country.

The committee chaired by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Govinda Sharma Poudel comprises NHRC secretary Bed Bhattarai, Nepal Bar Association chair Chandeshwar Shrestha, general secretary Leela Mani Poudyal, Federation of Nepali Journalists’ chair Govinda Acharya and general secretary Ramesh Bista, Federation of Non Government Organization’s chair Jitaram Lama and general secretary Ram Prasad Subedi as members. Director at the committee is Dr Tikaram Pokharel.

The NHRC has stated that the committee was formed to collect information and monitor on the government activities to control the pandemic, rights of all consumers, press freedom, access to justice administration and rights and duties of the citizens.

Similarly, such committee would be extended in each State and district.
