Two health institutions in village supplying medicines at doorsteps

(Krishna Dawadi)

People’s movement has been restricted with the nationwide lockdown announced by the government since March 24 to stem the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, people who are in the need of regular medication have not been able to visit health facilities. Lockdown has relatively affected more people like them.

The problem is more intense in remote villages. But, amidst this adversity, two health institutions at Machhapuchhre rural municipality in Kaski district have been making available required medicines to such patients and locals either at their doorsteps or nearby location. Social distancing has been practiced to distribute the medicines.

Lwanghalel Health Post and Siding Community Health Unit are importing essential medicines from accessible pharmacies and Pokhara and making supplies to the locals. They take the demand details through social Messenger, Viber and phone contacts. ”Local representatives and health workers are working in collaboration to make sure the essential medical supplies,” said Lwanghalel Health Post chief Anand Baral. Patients of diabetes, heart problems and high blood pressure are among those people who need regular medications, he added. ”However, some patients with specific diseases are required to visit health facilities to take medicines and we have facilitating their travel up to Pokhara.”

The locals have been urged to stay at home bearing in mind the health sensitivity in the wake of the spread of COVID-19.
