NC urges to increase numbers of coronavirus tests

Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has urged the government to massively expand the tests for COVID-19, seriously taking up the recent transmission of coronavirus infection to a woman from an infected person in Kailali.

The Nepali Congress has said the country has entered into the second stage of transmission with the laboratory examination of swabs of a local woman resulting positive for virus infection. Though all six Nepali people testing positive for COVID earlier had returned home from abroad, the confirmation of seventh case transmitted locally has indicated the alarming stage.

Issuing a press release issued today by NC spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma, it is noted that the woman did not bring the infection from abroad but got infected with coroanvirus for not maintaining alertness. "The magnitude of risks would not have widened had the government timely stopped two-way international flights, mandatorily kept the abroad returnees in quarantine facilities and expanded the scope of virus infection tests", the release reads.

Earlier, NC spokesperson Sharma called for the government to immediately arrange lab tests of the swab samples of all family members, neighbors and those coming into contact with the infected persons.

The NC also urged all local levels and local administrations to strictly implement the measures for keeping all Nepalis returning from outside in quarantines.
