NRCS Red Cross formulates strategies to respond to COVID-19 crisis

Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has formulated special strategies to provide assistance which also includes the management of spaces to quarantine people at risk of COVID-19. The Red Cross staffs would be mobilised to purchase essentials materials, take stock of health of people, help people keep in touch with their families, provide psychological advice and assistance to people including prisoners, according to a statement it has released today.

A trained team of people has been ready to provide assistance to the hospitals treating infected people and search for those who have come in contact with the infected ones, said director of Health Service Department, NRCS ,Bipul Neupane.

Red Cross’s respective bodies have been directed to follow its norms and values and focus on child protection, mistreatment, gender and sexual violence during responsive measures. For response and control of the virus, volunteers and Red Cross staffs have been mobilised at its offices in all 77 districts, said Neupane.

A procedure and action plan has been formulated in this regard through coordination among the Government of Nepal, international federation of Red Cross and United Nations, said NRCS executive director Umesh Dhakal.

Emergency centers have also been operated and volunteers of Red Cross have been mobilised at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, transits with India and China, airports and the places where movements are dense.
