Govt to tighten checks at southern transits with India

The government is set to tighten movements at southern transits with India in a bid to fight coronavirus (COVID-19).

A meeting of the national disaster risk reduction and management authority at Singha Durbar on Thursday took a decision in this regard. On the occasion, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa said preparedness against the infection is in place. "The situation has not reached the point like something of worse. The government has made legal and structural arrangements in tackling the infection. Preparedness against the virus is underway at all three levels. This should be implemented strictly," he said.

In this regard, an action committee coordinated by Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi has been formed, he said.

So far, the infection has spread across 166 countries in the world, 9,000 people have lost their lives and 200,000 have been affected by it, according to the World Health Organisation.
