CIEDP team in Rolpa to investigate into war-time cases

The Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) has arrived in Rolpa to begin investigation process on the persons disappeared forcefully during the armed conflict. Rolpa is one of the districts mostly affected by the conflict (1996-2006).

A team from the CIEDP arrived here to study about the people subjected to the enforced disappearance during the insurgency and to make recommendations for further action. The investigation goes on the basis of received complaints, Commission chair Yubaraj Subedi said. "Although the law to deal with post-investigation process is not sufficient, the existing law doesn’t obstruct the investigation and we will utilise the available law for the investigation," said Subedi.

A total of 132 complaints of human rights violation have been received from Rolpa considered as the epicenter of the armed conflict and it has been decided to go for comprehensive investigation into 98 complaints which put the number of disappeared at 99.

The team comprises Commission members Bishwa Prakas Bhandari, Dr Gangadhar Adhikari, Sunil Ranjan Singh and Sarita Thapa and employees. They have been divided into four groups and stationed at the District Attorney Office and District Coordination Committee Office, said Commission secretary Krishnajivi Ghimire.
