NPC enters semifinals of Aaha Rara Gold Cup

Nepal Police Club (NPC) entered semifinals in the 18th edition of Aaha Rara Gold Cup by registering a 4-2 tiebreaker win against hosts Sahara Club in a match on Saturday.

The match that took place in Pokhara Stadium went for penalty shootout after both teams played a 1-1 draw during normal and extra time period.

For Nepal Police Club, strikers Bharat Shah, Hem Tamang, Suman Subedi and Saujan Yokkaha Rai scored all their four penalties, while Anup Limbu’s penalty kick was blocked by Sahara Club’s goalkeeper Arpan Karki.

For Sahara Club, only Ashish Gurung and Ajaya Shrestha scored their two penalties, but Nepal Police Club’s goalkeeper Roshan Khadka blocked two penalties. Likewise, Tridev Gurung’s missed his penalty after hitting his shot at the upper bar of the goalpost.

Following a goalless draw in the first half, Nepal Police Club took a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute.

However, the match equaled after Sahara Club’s Shrestha scored a goal from a Pramesh Gurung’s pass in the fourth minutes in injury time.

Nepal Police Club’s goalkeeper Khadka was announced man of the match. He received Rs 5,000 in cash and a trophy.

The tournament will run until March 14. Winner will receive Rs 1 million and first runner-up Rs 500,000.
