Rana-Tharu Samaj offers gratitude to President

Rana-Tharu Samaj has expressed its gratitude to President Bidya Devi Bhandari for her crucial role for listing Rana-Tharu as a separate indigenous community.

The Samaj expressed its gratefulness after calling on President Bhandari at the guesthouse of Nepal Rastra Bank in Dhangadhi, Kailali on Saturday. Present on the occasion were 32 members of the community including House of Representative member Narad Muni Rana and the Rana-Tharu Samaj’s president Kripa Ram Rana.

On the occasion, President Bhandari was presented with Dalwa (a sculpture portraying identity of the Rana Tharu community) as a token of love from the Samaj, said Kripa Ram.

"We have requested President to take initiatives to accommodate the community in the coming national census, 2021, form Rana-Tharu commission and provide us rights on par with indigenous nationalities," he said, adding that in response, she assured that she would take up their demands with the government.
