‘Nepal and Canada share similarities in political system’

The lawmakers of the National Assembly (NA) have said that Nepal and Canada can learn from each other’s practices since the two countries share similar political features.

Speaking at the NA meeting today that saw the presence of Speaker of Canada’s Senate George J. Furey, the lawmakers said Nepal and Canada enjoy deep relations.

Parliamentary party leader of Nepal Communist Party at the NA Dinanath Sharma recalled the 65 years long diplomatic ties between the two countries and added that the political characteristics of these countries are similar to a large extent.

Both the countries have bicameral system with multiparty political system though Nepal is a federal democratic republic and Canada has the constitutional monarchy.

"Multiparty competition, constitutional monarchy, equality, social justice, peace, good governance and rule of law are the characteristics of Canada. Though Nepal is a republic country, the political features and fundamental aspects are similar in both the countries," Sharma said.

Sharma added that Furey’s visit would further strengthen the mutual relations between Nepal and Canada.

Likewise, leader of opposition leader at the NA Surendra Raj Pandey hoped for the fruitful stay of Canadian delegation in Nepal.

He said that Nepal’s constitution has ensured the provisions of inclusiveness, human rights, complete press freedom and separation of power.

Likewise, Ramesh Prasad Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party, Nepal drew attention of the government to incorporate the missing issues in the constitution through amendment.

NA’s next meeting is scheduled for 1:00 pm on February 17.
