Deuba fears interference on civic freedom

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed that the government’s interventions for sustainable development were insufficient and accused the government of interfering on citizens’ freedom.

At a two-day conference organised on ‘sustainable infrastructures, development politics, economy and environment’ in the capital on Sunday, the former PM said that the government’s efforts for road constructions were not enough.

"Interference to seize the citizens’ freedom is taking place instead of the government interventions for positive impacts," he said. Road accidents have increased after haphazardly constructing the roads everywhere in the hilly regions without a technical study, Deuba added.

Likewise, NC vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi said that physical and political infrastructures were needed for the nation’s development.

Also speaking at the same programme, NC general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala, former finance minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and other NC leaders opined for the need of quality infrastructures for the country’s development.
