Nepal suffers 18-run defeat to Oman in ICC World Cup League Two

Nepal has conceded an 18-run defeat to Oman in a match on Wednesday under the ongoing ICC World Cup League Two championship at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Oman made 197 runs in allotted 50 overs at the loss of 9 wickets.

In the chase of the 198 runs target, Nepal was restricted to 179 in 46.5 overs at the loss of all wickets. For Oman, Mohammad Nadim hit highest 69 runs including two sixes and five boundaries. Similarly, Sandip Gaud made 33 runs, Nashim Khusi 28, Jeshan Maksud 20 and Akib Lyas 16.

In batting, Nepal started badly with the loss of Captain Gyanendra Malla in the fourth over. At that time, Nepal scored only four runs. Likewise, Paras Khadka was out in five overs, scoring only one run. However, the match picked up when the partnership between Dipendra Singh and Sharad Bheshwakar made 62 runs. But this was not enough to defeat well organised Oman.

For Nepal, Karan KC claimed four wickets, Sushan Bhari three and Dipendra Singh Airee one. Sandeep Lamichhane’s poor performance in this match however disappointed the audience. He conceded 45 runs to Oman in 10 overs without a single wicket to his name.

For Oman, Jeshan Maksud took three wickets, Bilal Khan and Kalim Ullah two each and Mohammad Nadim and Khabar Ali one wicket each.

Oman and the United States of America are competing in the second match on Thursday.
