The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has constructed ‘Martyr Dharmabhakta Mathema Park’.

Kathmandu mayor Bidyasundar Shakya inaugurated the park constructed at KMC-23, Ombahal amidst a programme on Wednesday.

The park with full-size statue of Dharmabhakta was constructed in memory of the contributions of the great martyr in the location of his ancestral home.

KMC sources said the park was constructed at the cost of Rs 6.5 million.

On the occasion mayor Shakya said the statues of four great martyrs – Dharmabhakta Mathema, Shukraraj Shastri, Dasharath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha – were erected to immortalize their immense contributions for freedom and democracy.

He also shared that Budhanilakantha municipality is also preparing to establish ‘Martyr Dharmabhakta Human Service Ashram Building’ in commemoration of martyr Dharmabhakta.

Likewise, KMC on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up an oxygen plant at Gangalal Heart Centre in memory of martyr Gangalal.

Former Vice-Chancellor of the Tribhuvan University (TU) Kedar Bhakta Mathema said it was laudable to erect statues in memory of martyrs even after 80 years.

KMC-23 ward chair Macharaja Maharjan informed that the park was stretched over 9.2 ana land.
