NCP leaders up their voices for socialism

-Sharad Sharma

Most of the central committee members of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have asked the party leadership to opt for socialism by maintaining good governance in the party and the government.

While submitting their report on the political report by party chairs KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, and the organizational report of general secretary Bishnu Poudel, 15 discussion groups have asked the party leadership and government to curb corruption in the country.

The groups have also demanded that the definition of Nepali society’s characteristics be made and develop the socialism of Nepali characteristics.

Thakur Gaire, a team leader of the panel, said that stern punishment should be opted against corrupts adding that corruption has become a major problem in the country.

Red-hand arrest of the people’s representatives with bribe money, policy corruption, party leaders’ linkages in the tender bidding and such other non-political activities have made the government’s commitment against corruption futile, Gaire said.

Likewise, leader of group no. 15 Himal Sharma said that start should be done from the education and health care sectors to head the nation towards socialism stating that education and health should not be made the area of business.

Party leaders have invested in education and health. Their investment should be withdrawn within a year. If that does not happen, such leaders should renounce the central committee membership," Sharma argued.

Likewise, leader of group no. 3 Khimlal Bhattarai viewed that anti-corruption move should be operated in the country adding that such campaign could be run by mobilizing the whole party.

Leader Bhattarai suggested that the party leadership together spreads achievements made by the government. In the meeting that began on Friday, party’s 15 groups tabled group reports on the political report presented by NCP chairs Oli and Prachanda, on the organisational report by General Secretary Poudel and the party statute amendment report.

Leaders of the group put their view and suggestions on the reports. Party’s top leaders are scheduled to respond to the group reports tabled by party groups tomorrow (Sunday), said Surya Thapa, deputy chief of NCP’s Publicity Department. The CC meeting is slated to be over tomorrow (Sunday).
