CM Rai for disabled people friendly infrastructures

State-1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai has said the physical infrastructures in the State would be made friendly to the disabled people. Inaugurating a programme on control of disability and rehabilitation here Monday, CM Rai reiterated that the State government was committed to the rights of the people living with disabilities (PWD).

The PWD would be rehabilitated and rights to women, children and senior citizen be equally addressed for making a prosperous society. He further said the programmes to capacitate the PWD would be implemented effectively.

On the occasion, Minister for Social Development at the State, Jivan Ghimire, said the State government was studying the causes of the birth of PWD and how it could be reduced.

Mayor at Biratnagar metropolitan city, Bhim Parajuli, viewed the metropolitan city would extend assistance to the campaign launched by the State government.

On the occasion, Chairperson of Karuna Foundation, Prof Dr Bhagawan Koirala, informed that the cooperation of the State government in the campaign would help 49 percent of total population here.

A tri-party collaboration has been established between the State-1 Ministry of Social Development, local levels and Karuna Foundation for the implementation of the campaign. It will be launched in 26 rural municipalities in the first phase.

The campaign to run for three years covers Morang, Sunsari, Dhankuta and Panchathar districts for the first phase.

At the programme, Tej Bahadur Karki from Okhaldhuga who travelled across the globe in wheelchair, was honoured with Rs 51,000 and a commendation letter.
