I tendered resignation the moment candidate for Speaker was fixed, says Tumbahangfe

Deputy Speaker of parliament, Dr Shiva Maya Tumbahangfe, explained that she tendered resignation from her post the moment the candidate for Speaker was finalized.

Talking to journalists at Parliament Building at New Baneshower in Kathmandu today immediately after announcing her resignation from her post in the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Dr Tumbahangfe said that she made the move to pave the way for the election of the Speaker after the party Nepal Communist Party (NCP) asked her to vacate it.

Stating that she was the Deputy Speaker for the Parliament rather than her Party (NCP), Tumbahangfe explained that she could not obey the instruction of the NCP to tender resignation.

"I tendered the resignation to pave the path for the election of Speaker acknowledging the parliamentary values."

According to her, she discharged her duty as the Deputy Speaker for two years as per the constitution. She also asserted that she had been leading the House of Representatives with the rights enshrined by the constitution since the post of Speaker has remained vacant on October 1 last year.

"I am very happy to tender resignation. The resignation has further enthused me for my personal growth," she concluded.

The post of Speaker has been vacant after Krishna Bahadur Mahara resigned from the post over the allegation of sexual abuse from a female staffers of the Parliament Secretariat.

The meeting to the NCP Secretariat on Sunday had finalized to elect Agni Prasad Sapkota as the Speaker.
