Politicians deny other mechanism to fight against COVID-19

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Shivamaya Tumbahangphe has said leaders of different political parties have suggested that formation of a separate mechanism was not needed for the control and treatment of COVID-19.

Minister Tumbahangphe submitted such recommendation received from some political parties represented in the federal parliament to Iswar Pokhrel, Deputy Prime Minister and coordinator of the high-level coordination committee formed by the government for the control and treatment of COVID-19.

Earlier, a meeting of the Council of Ministers had assigned the law minister to coordinate with the political parties on the matter. Minister Tumbahangphe said, “The political parties have suggested that such separate mechanism was not needed, as there is people’s elected parliament.”

The political parties have also suggested for activating all three-tier of administrations in relief distribution and ensure unhindered supplies of health materials.

Minister Tumbahangphe shared that the recommendations will be submitted at the Council of Ministers.

The politicians have also asked the government to keep the foreign returnees in quarantines, ensure necessary health materials to the ambulance drivers to carry the infected ones to the hospitals and beef up the security provisions along the border areas and prevent the black marketing in the time of crisis.

Minister Tumbahangphe on Friday had consulted with Chief Whip of Nepal Communist Party Dev Gurung, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand, Socialist Party Nepal Chief Whip Uma Shankar Argariya, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal Chief Whip Laxman Lal Karna and leaders of Nepal Workers Peasants Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party.
