Rural municipality chair assures adequate distribution of relief materials

Kailash rural municipality chair Tanka Moktan has reminded the locals that the rural municipality itself was able to provide adequate relief materials so they need not beg it with any others.

Taking to the social networking site, chair Moktan appealed to the locals to believe in the local government that it would not let anyone die of hunger during the lockdown. “If anyone is running short of food items, contact your local government. We, the people’s representatives, will reach them to do the needful,” the statement posted by Moktan read.

The government in Nepal has enforced a nationwide lockdown since March 24 to prevent the possible outbreak of COVID-19. So far 9 cases of the deadly infection has been reported in the country.

Moktan requested that the villagers could feed on the locally produced food items rather than having to survive on the food items donated by some organizations with vested interest.

Locals lend support to impoverished communities

The locals of Indrawati rural municipality-2 in Makawanpur district have provided humanitarian assistance to the impoverished families in the locality who were hardest hit by the lockdown.

Altogether 75 impoverished households received the food items provided by Small Farmer Development Microfinance Financial Institute Ltd. Social worker Mohan Giri took the lead to garner support for them from the local level. He personally contributed Rs 50,000 and collected the cash support provided by Hira Bahadur Giri and Balaram Khadka of Ramechhap for this cause.

Most of the families receiving the food items were the daily wagers who could not go out and earn breads for themselves and their families during this lockdown, according to Mohan Giri.

Each such families received 15 kg of rice, lentils, sugar, salt and other food items, shared Giri.
