‘Government employees not entitled to relief package as tenant’

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has kept the daily wage earners working in the unorganized sectors in the priority list for relief package distribution during the ongoing lockdown period. Talking to journalists on Friday, Mayor of KMC Bidya Sundar Shakya was sharing his initiatives unveiled to assist the needy people during the lockdown.

“Distribution of the relief package is not only for the tenants. Despite having houses in the capital city but having no purchasing power capacity would be distributed relief,” Shakya said. Mayor Shakya said the government employees residing in the rented house would not enjoy such relief package to be doled out from the KMC.

Mayor Shakya was of the view that the KMC had already prepared the preliminary details of the targeted group and the relief package would be distributed accordingly. He added that details of the beneficiaries will be obtained from all 32 wards by Friday. “We are cautious that no one will be left starving,” Shakya claimed.

On the occasion, Mayor Shakya said that the KMC was working to disinfect every settlement.

Aiming to facilitate the health checkup and help identify the suspected individuals, the KMC has already introduced COVID-19 surveillance service mobile app. Some people have submitted their details in this app, he shared.
