19 stranded tourists rescued from Sagarmatha zone

Altogether 19 tourists were rescued from Lukla to Kathmandu today. They were stranded in various places of Sagarmatha zone in Solukhumbu district.

The tourists were stranded due to the nation-wide lockdown enforced since Tuesday. According to the Assistant Chief District Officer Laxmi Kumari Shahi, among the rescued tourists, one was Nepali national while rest other 18 were foreigners, mostly French nationals.

A total of 14 French tourists were airlifted in Tara Air’s aircraft while two were rescued in Air Dynasty and three in Simrik Air’s helicopter, informed Shahi.

There are currently 150 tourists in Lukla, the gateway to the highest mountain in the world, Sagarmatha. On Tuesday and Wednesday, altogether 10 tourists, most of them were suffering from high altitude sickness, were rescued said Chief District Officer in Solukhumbu, Rama Acharya.

It was told that a chartered aircraft would be soon flown from France to fly the French nationals stranded in Nepal back their home.
