Fire guts four houses; survivors rendered helpless

A fire gutted four houses at Halesi Tuwachung municiplaity-9, Salle Hattitar in Khotang on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire that broke out from air turned into ashes the houses of local Lokendra Majhi, Jokhe Majhi, Sitadevi Majhi and Jhan Bahadur Thapa.

Police shared the fire destroyed the properties worth amounting to Rs 2.2 million including Rs 800,000 of Jhan Bahadur, Rs 500,000 each of Lokendra and Jokhe and Rs 400,000 of Sita Devi.

The municipality today had handed over food and logistics materials to those rendered displaced by the fire. The municipality distributed relief materials including 20-kg rice, dal, salt, utensils, tent and blanket to each fire affected family, shared mayor Dawan Rai.

Likewise, ward chair Kashiraj Rai provided financial assistance of Rs 3,000 each to the fire survivor families from Salle-based ward level disaster management fund.

Local Dudhkoshi Youth Club also arranged makeshift residence and food for the fire-displaced families.

The fire has left the locals in the lurch after it destroyed their residence and food stuffs.

However, there is no human casualty in the incident. Locals had put out the fire on Tuesday evening.
