Mom, daughter killed in Banepa road mishap

A woman and her daughter were killed in a road mishap at Maneshwori bus park at Panauti Municipality-5 of Kavrepalanchowk on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Junimaya Gole, 26, of Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1 and her three-year-old daughter Smarika Tamang. Both of them died while undergoing treatment at Banepa-based Sheer Memorial Hospital, according to police.

The accident took place when a tipper (Ba 5 Kha 5480) heading towards Panauti from Banepa hit them. Gole’s husband, Tshering Lama, is in Malaysia for overseas employment for two years. Police have arrested the tipper driver and impounded the vehicle.

Police Inspector at the Area Police Office, Banepa, Yogendra Timilsina, said that police opened two rounds of fires in air and five shells of teargas after an irate crowd demonstrated after the incident. Five police personnel were injured during their attempts to contain the situation. Of the injured, condition of police head constable Dilip Budhathoki is critical, said police.
