Snowfall affects development works in East Rukum

Repeated snowfall in various parts of the East Rukum has affected the development constructions, officials argued

Taksera, Hukam, Maikot, Pipaltung, Ghumlibang, Pelma and Tumphadamchan of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality, highlands of Bhume Rural Municipality and Maring and Sisne Rural Municipality are now blanked with thick snow. As a result, construction of roads, bridges and public buildings is affected, said Om Kumari Shahi, vice chairperson of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality.

However, development works in the lower belts in the district including Rukumkot, Syalapakha, Pokhara, Khabang and Lukum are ongoing, she said.

Generally, development works start when after the beginning of the summer season, as the locals of the mountainous areas during the season descend towards lowlands to escape cold.

Construction works at the National Agriculture Research Centre at Maring were affected due to snowfall, said Man Kumari Bista, vice chairperson of Maring Rural Municipality. A long spell of snowfall has affected their daily life, shared the local people.
