State No 5 lifts National Hockey Cup

State No 5 has won the second edition of Sahana Pradhan Memorial National Women’s Hockey Cup that concluded in Pokhara on Thursday. In the final match of the tournament held at Pokhara Stadium State No 5 beat Tribhuvan Army Club 1-0 to win the cup.

The tournament organized by the Nepal Hockey Association began on February 29.

Sushi Kumari of State No 5 scored the decisive goal in the 58th minute of the game. State No 5 team was awarded with a cash prize amounting to Rs 50,000, trophy and medals while first runner up TAC got Rs 30,000, trophy and medal.

Similarly, Sudurpaschim which had defeated Gandaki State to finish third took home Rs 15,000 cash prize and trophy. Gandaki State team’s Sonu Baral and Devaki BK were named the Rising Star Player and the highest goal scorer respectively.

Best goal keeper award was given to Karuna Dalarmi of Sudurpaschim State team while Sushi Kumari of State No 5 team was declared the best player of the match.

Former Minister Kumar Khadka handed over the awards to the players. He called for government’s attention towards producing international level hockey players from Nepal.

Teams from State No 1, State No 2, State No 5, Sudurpaschim State, Gandaki State and Tribhuvan Army Club had vied in the competition, shared the game’s coordinator Himal Khadka.
