Honest cabbies awarded

Kathmandu traffic police have awarded 21 cabbies in the Kathmandu Valley for their honest and outstanding work amid a programme here on Monday.
The awardees have been identified as Yubaraj Rana Magar, Yagya Prasad Baral, Kul Prasad Shrestha, Nanda Lal Nagarkoti, Sunil Thapa Magar, Abadesh Kumar Jha, Prabin Tamang, Surya Bahadur Tamang, Krishna Bahadur Khatri, Krishna Ghising, Netra Prasad Tamang, Ram Chandra Moktan, Royat Bahadur Rokka, Jhamka Shrestha, Ridh Bahadur Chhetri, Nabin Sigdel, Tulasi Ram Khanal, Bishnu Ale, Netra Bahadur Magar, Mani Shrestha and Nilhari Dhungel.
The honoured drivers have returned valuable assets, cash and ornaments found during travelling to its rightful owners, said Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal, chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD), on the occasion.
"Honesty of the drivers has become a source of inspiration for others in the context when morality, humanity and discipline are weakening in the society. Drivers play an important role in maintaining road disciplines," he said.
Similarly, Superintendent of Police Jiban Kumar Shrestha, the MTPD Spokesperson, emphasised cooperation between traffic police and drivers.
Of the awardees, Sigdel recently returned gold ornaments weighing 13 tola and a laptop he found during travelling to its owner.
Of applications registered with the MTPD in the current fiscal year, 2076/77 so far asking for the recovery of 395 valuables lost during travelling, lost things worth over Rs 14 million have been handed to its rightful owners on the initiatives of traffic police, said Shrestha.
