Rain and snow forecast as Westerly wind becomes active

The weather will be partly to generally cloudy throughout the country today due to the influence of the Westerly wind with the possibility of rain and snowfall in some places, the Meteorological Forecasting Division said.

Meteorologist Shanti Kandel said it would be cloudy throughout the country due to the influence of the low pressure system with chances of light rain in one or two places of the hilly region and of light snowfall in some places of the mountainous region.

According to the meteorologist there is possibility of light rain in most places of the country due to the impact of the wind.

Although there will be sunshine for some time in the Kathmandu Valley, the weather will become cloudy from the afternoon with chances of light rain. It is said partial rain will take place even in the Valley with some places receiving rain while no rain in other places.

The influence of the Westerly wind was expected to gradually subside from Saturday. However, smog will remain. "There should be heavy rain and high wind speed for the haze to clear up. There is no possibility of heavy rain for the time being," Kandel said.

Weather on Friday and Saturday

The Division stated that generally to completely cloudy condition will prevail throughout the country on Friday with chances of light rain in some places of the eastern region and light to mild snowfall in many places of the high hilly and mountainous regions in the western and central parts.

On Saturday, the weather will be partly to generally cloudy throughout the country with the possibility of light rain in some places of the central and eastern regions and at a few places of the western hilly region.

As per the latest weather bulletin released by the Division, the minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley was 9.8 degrees Celsius and the maximum 20.2 degrees Celsius today. The highest minimum temperature was recorded in Jumla. Jumla’s minimum temperature was minus 0.1 degree Celsius.
