Communications and Information Technology Minister Banskota resigns

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Banskota has resigned from his post today. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota informed the House of Representatives meeting about this.

The Speaker shared this information after the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, demanded in the House meeting that the Communications and Information Technology Minister be immediately sacked as an audio tape has been made public in which he is heard asking for commission in the security press purchase process.

After the Nepali Congress lawmakers stood up from their seats in protest at the outset of the meeting calling for the Minister to resign, Speaker Sapkota stated that he has been informally informed that the Minister has resigned.

The Speaker informed the meeting that Banskota, who was also handling the Urban Development Ministry portfolio, has resigned and urged the opposition legislators to allow the House to carry on its business. But the Nepali Congress lawmakers continued their protest by standing, compelling the Speaker to adjourn the meeting.

The House of Representatives will next meet at 1 pm on February 25.
