Election should reflect people’s mandate: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that electoral system cannot be improved without democracy as election is the heart of democracy.

At the fourth Election Day Special Programme organised by Election Commission here on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli stressed that EC’s activities should be focused on increasing people’s participation in election, to make election cheaper, fair and transparent.

Saying the election should not be only peaceful, but it should also reflect representation of the people, he praised the EC’s role for holding election in a free and fearless manner.

The Prime Minister suggested the EC to pay its attention on making arrangement to hold election in a transparent manner, election cost cheaper and resources as there is no hectic schedule for EC.

He drew EC’s attention to hold discussion on different issues on how to make coming election transparent, cheaper, increasing people’s participation and representing people’s sentiments, suggesting to accept the truth that democracy would be strong only if people’s mandate is accepted.

PM Oli said, "We have been moving ahead successfully to make Nepal prosperous through good governance and development for the country and to materialize national goal."

Similarly, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya mentioned that the EC has been supporting for peace, stability, prosperity and good governance through the medium of fair, credible and transparent election.
