Development, environment to be taken together: State-1 Minister Kushiyat

Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment at State-1 Jagadish Kushiyat has pledged to take forward the agendas of development and environment protection in a parallel manner.

Responding to the queries raised in the meeting of State Assembly held here Friday to deliberate on the bill relating to the environment protection, Minister Kushiyat vowed to take into account the recommendations furnished by the State Assembly members on the bill. He also expressed commitment to incorporate the issues left out to consider in the bill.

The bill would be fruitful to preserve the wetlands in the State-1, Kushiyat said, adding that some of the concerns raised by the State Assembly members on environmental protection would be addressed by the Forest Bill.

In the meeting, proposal seeking deliberation on the bill relating to registration, renewal of farms that was presented by Minister Kushiyat was unanimously endorsed.

Taking part in the discussion on the dill on its principles, State Assembly member Indira Rai stressed that the bill should incorporate foreign national and companies for operating the firms and enterprises.

Another member Prakash Hanggam asserted that the bill should strictly omit the provision that allow the entrepreneurs obtain huge loans from the bank and financial institution for the investment on uncultivable lands.

Similarly, major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) chief whip Kedar Karki demanded that the Ministers who tabled the proposal seeking deliberation on bills be present in the meeting that deliberate on the related bills.
