Gyawali appointed new IGP

The government of Nepal has appointed Thakur Prasad Gyawali the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nepal Police.

According to Ministry of Home Affairs, the meeting of Council of Ministers held at Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar today took the decision to promote Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Gyawali to this post.

Gyawali has become the 27th IGP. Prior to this, he was serving as the Chief of Police for State No 1. His tenure as the IGP will be for five months.

Outgoing IGP Sarbendra Khanal is retiring from today, completing 30 years of service in the institution.

Since three Additional Inspector Generals of Police (AIG)- Pushkar Karki, Thule Rai and Dhiru Basnyat-are also retiring from from today due to age limit, the government decided to promote Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Gyawali to the post of IGP.

The Police Headquarters will welcome new IGP on Wednesday while incumbent IGP Khanal was given a farewell at his office today itself, according to the Police Headquarters at Naxal.

DIG Shailesh Thapa Chettri, also Spokesperson of Nepal Police, shared that 18 other DIGs were also retiring from their services from today. In total, 22 high-ranking police officials will retire from tonight.

Newly appointed IGP Gyawali was inducted in the police institution as a police inspector on July 9, 1990. He will assume office as the IGP until mid-July this year.
