Morgue freezer lying idle: compulsion to attend dead bodies

Morgue freezer has been lying idle following disruption of the construction of Rapti Institute of Health Science (RIHS)’s mortuary due to budget crisis.

The RIHS has faced budget crunch to bring the mortuary into operation, informed its Registrar Ram Prasad Pyakurel. The mortuary cabinet that was imported when the current institute was in the status of sub-regional hospital had not come to use, he shared.

He said the RIHS has demanded for budgetary arrangement from government to operate mortuary. "It will help manage unattended dead bodies if the morgue freezer is arranged", he added.

The unattended dead bodies has made whole RIHS surround stinking and also caused trouble in carrying out post-mortem.

Police said the under-construction mortuary has the capacity to bear 5-7 dead bodies and will prevent dead bodies from decomposition.

Hospital in-charge Ramita Gautam said there is compulsion for police and hospital employees to attend dead bodies.

Ghorahi sub-metropolis-1 ward chair Rammani Pandey assured for providing budget for the construction of mortuary if the RIHS submitted application for the same.
