President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said she was enthusiastic to see the progress in the rebuild of historic ancient heritages.
Following the inspection of Ranipokhari (water pond), Dharahara (a historic tower), Kasthamandap (ancient structure) and Hanumandhoka Nautale Durbar (palace) which are presently under the post-earthquake reconstruction phase, the Head of the State said she was enthusiastic about the progress in the reconstruction efforts.
The President was addressing government senior officials and people’s representatives directly involved in the rebuild of the Basantapur Durbar (Palace).
Though the commencement of reconstruction of heritages damaged by the 2015 April earthquake was initially delayed, now everything was going ahead in a right away, the President said. "I wish to thank all those involved in the reconstruction efforts."
Describing historic heritages as our treasures, the President was of the view of handing such heritages build at different times to the future generation as it is as they are the records of history. She highlighted the need of motivating the new generation to contribute in the building of a civilized, disciplined and just society.
The State was working by making plans after much though for the protection of such heritages despite limited capital and technology, she added.
"If we wish to write history of every era, it doesn’t mean that one’s history should be written by eliminating others. The Ranipokhari carries a history of a mother mourned by the death of her son, despite its tragedy, it should be known to the future generation. New Nepal is not possible by replacing old statues by the new ones."
President Bhandari advised for rebuilding the Ranipokhari by keeping its history and spirit alive and giving top priority to the use of domestic labour, skills and materials in the reconstruction.
She reminded that challenges emerge rife if the efforts were made against nature and culture. "We want civilized, disciplined and just society where people from all classes and culture share benefit and opportunity with equal development," she added.
On the occasion, Kathmandu metropolis mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said the metropolis had come up with new thoughts for infrastructure development.
Chief Executive of the National Reconstruction Authority, Sushil Gyawali, has said efforts were made to construct the historic and archaeological heritages devastated by the 2015 earthquake.
