Cabinet extends term of two commissions on transitional justice

The government has extended the tenure of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Commission for Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) by one more year.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on 27 January took this decision, government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota shared at a regular press meet at the Ministry on Thursday. The government took the move as the term of the two commissions was expiring from mid-April.

Likewise, the government decided to form a 7-member talks team under the lead role of Joint Secretary of the International Economic Assistance Coordination Division of the Finance Ministry to hold talks for accepting 50 million US dollar from the World Bank Group for the climate change and disaster risk mitigation.

According to Minister Banskota, the government decided to establish special survey offices at Chainpur of Sankhuwasabha district for the reestablishment of maps and registrars damaged during the conflict while the office established for the same purpose in Achham district is dissolved.

Similarly, the government has given one more year to the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) for the management of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project.

The cabinet appointed Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Prof Dr Dharmakanta Banskota and Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University Prof Dr Ramkantha Makaju as the members of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The government also appointed Dr Nirmal Lamichhane of Sorhawa-1, Bardiya as the Chairman of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital Management Committee.

The Cabinet gave approval to submit different bills in the federal parliament. The bills are relating to the monitoring and evaluation, immigration, Pokhara Health Science Academy (first amendment), copy right, Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Establishment and others.
